Punjabi Teshan : MOHALI(18th September 2022):In Punjab, where Punjabi cinema is a big industry, filmmakers made a strong comeback after the pandemic by making films with a wide range of subjects and characters engaged in ambitious experiments. Jagdeep Sidhu, a filmmaker who has developed his own distinctive style, has in recent years captured the audience’s interest on a more profound level.
Recently, a controversy broke the internet when the director Jagdeep Sidhu shared a heartfelt note on his social media handle expressing sorrow as his latest release, Moh did not do well at the box office collection despite receiving remarkable and appreciative comments. The film was Sargun Mehta and Gitaz Bindrakhia starrer which most deservingly attracted the audience worldwide with its sufiana tracks, but has now turned out
Additionally, Sargun Mehta also broke her silence and replied to the post, saying that even she has felt the same disappointment and that she was herself going to share the same note with her audience. While the musician, B Praak also supported replying to the post with hearts.
Why is a filmmaker only given the option of sharing his disappointment with us when we, the audience, praise and commend the performance, songs, debutantes in the picture, and even rate the best actors that are significant parts of it? In the note, Jagdeep Sidhu advises not wasting his producers’ efforts if the films don’t turn out to be safe for them and instead looking for a market that values quality work.
It’s a moment of shame that one of the finest directors of the Punjabi cinema who gave the lovers, heartbroken a reason to smile, made them understand the reality that their long gone beloved does not have trust in us and our fake appreciation anymore. Is this for real, well! There is certainly no doubt that if there are no fresh contents and challenging roles then the Punjabi cinema may yet again be drawn to darkness as it did in the early 2000s.
